Amir Nasr Azadani who is a former professional soccer player faces the death penalty in Iran. He was arrested in November 2022 during the Mahsa Amini protests, allegedly in connection with the deaths of a police officer and two Basij militia members. He was accused of "waging war against God". Following his arrest relatives reported being threatened. Security forces allegedly said that if the family refused to keep Amirs' arrest quiet, then he would be given the most severe sentence.
